Oak Forest is as warm and inviting as the residents who inhabit our charming community. Tucked away in scenic forest preserves, this is the ideal environment for those who enjoy outdoor recreational activities, while still having 24/7 access to the shopping and nightlife downtown Chicago has to offer. Locals and visitors enjoy the family-friendly amenities that comprise our community, including miles of bike trails, the acclaimed George Dunne National and Chicago Gaelic Park, host to many incredible local festivals and events.

An iconic red barn greets visitors to Camp Sullivan, at 147th and Ridgeland, where large groups can rent bunkhouses and families can enjoy tent camping tucked within the beautiful 612-acre Tinley Creek Woods. With access to more than 13 miles of trails, Camp Sullivan is a perfect destination for nature exploration and group gatherings. Even the barn, with a 28-foot climbing wall and other adventures is a hub of activity. Every weekend during peak season, Forest Preserves staff lead free programs open to all registered campers, including: Friday and Saturday night campfires and special evening programs, Saturday afternoon activities and hikes, and camping skill demonstrations. The staff also offer regularly scheduled programs including Camping 101 workshops, staff-led Family Campouts, and a comprehensive Camping Leadership Immersion Course for leaders and organized groups. Camp Sullivan also offers a limited number of Camping Adventure Backpacks available for free checkout, that include binoculars, field guides, a compass, activity sheets, and other aids to nature exploration.

Whether it's access to regional amenities, downtown Chicago or simply friends next door, Oak Forest families and residents can say they are always "close to home."
